What is with all the hate against conservatives on Quora?
Conservatives? I’m completely fine with Conservatives. Honest, hard working people who share my belief in science, objective reality, statesmanship, and working together to solve a common problem? Yeah, I’m good with them. No hate whatsoever. In fact, it’s respect and even some love — I can learn from a reasoned discussion between friends. We don’t have to agree on the severity of every problem, we don’t have to agree about the solutions to those problems.
We do have to agree on the rule of law, on democracy, on the rights of every American regardless of their race, color, gender, or sexual orientation. And we do… I play music and drink beer with some of these folks every month or more.
But these days we have Trumpians. The collective of liars, white nationalists, KKKers, conmen, and deplorables who trade off the term conservative as a brand name, not a political or economic philosophy. These are people who can’t tell the truth to save their lives, can’t even recognize the truth. They’re apparently in full thrall to Donald J. Trump, conman, liar, and ex-President for life.
These are the people opposing democracy. They’re those who stormed the Capitol on January 6th, 2021. They’re the ones passing laws to prevent people of color from voting in Red States. They’re the ones passing laws that will make it legal for Red State Legislatures to entirely toss out the vote of the people for no valid reason. They’re the people who actually believe the silly fantasy that Donald Trump didn’t lose the 2020 election, and lose “bigly”.
If that’s you, there’s no reasoning with you. And like my Dad and many other family members of that era, who fought totalitarian fascism overseas, I will fight every effort to kill democracy and install a dictator here. Trump or any other. And yes, “hate” is a prefect term for how I feel about anyone who’d like to kill democracy here. Pity is what I feel for those too mentally weak to see through the transparent lies of a fool like Trump.
