The right of parents to send children to school and of children to enter school without fear of their being shot is now overridden by a bogus interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. This is #Insane.
The glorification of violence that now permeates our culture must be admitted and changed. For it is everywhere. From gratuitous violence on TV and in movies and lyrics, to environmental policies that perpetrate violence on the earth, to economic policies that perpetuate violence on the poor, to an unjust criminal justice system that perpetuates violence on the poor and on POC, to military misadventures that perpetuate violence on people around the world, to the corruption in DC that allows the NRA to tyrannize us as it does, to our own loveless thoughts and actions, we must rise up now and stand for the miracle of a fundamental pattern disruption.
Now, in a season when we celebrate the possibility of new beginnings, let us start with the idea that the way things are now is unacceptable and intolerable. “Not on our watch!” That is the beginning: to say no to what we do not want and Yes to what we do want. From there the way will be paved for all of us to follow. We want peace, we want justice, and we want love. We have got to change things. And with God’s help, we will.
