Doctor warns Trump’s Nevada rally is ‘negligent homicide’: ‘People will die’
Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University and medical analyst for CNN, said on Sunday that President Trump‘s indoor rally in Nevada is “negligent homicide.”
“What else could you call an act that because of its negligence results in the death of others?” he said. “If you have a mass gathering now in the United States in a place like Nevada or just about any other place with hundreds of thousands of people, people will get infected and some of those people will die.”
“There has been a lot of talk about over whether the president played down the risks of this virus to his followers and the country as a whole. And you have to just look at what is going on now to understand that,” he continued.
“If you took this virus seriously, you would never hold an indoor rally or almost any rally now and particularly one that doesn’t enforce very strict rules on masks. People will die as a consequence of this. I think that Nevada has a law right now limiting gatherings to more than 50 people. So, the president is defying that. Makes no sense.”

I just left the ER. Here’s what you need to know about testing:
| I just got done working a shift in the Emergency Department. I need to tell you what Trump won’t: Our testing protocols have now scaled back significantly. We cannot get rapid turn around tests on most patients. We have to send people home for a couple of days to wait for their test results. Frankly, it feels like we’re beating a dead horse that isn’t dead yet with this lack of testing availability. Just this weekend President Trump said anyone who wants a test can get a test. And now here we are. Six months into this crisis, nearly 200,000 people dead, and we still can’t get a test for everyone who needs one. I’ll be honest with you: it is tough to practice medicine under these conditions. We are reusing personal protective equipment again. We’re being told we may need to go back to re-using our N95 masks for weeks at a time. We’re being told that if we don’t scale back our testing, we may only have a week’s supply left. This President could have used the Defense Production Act to ensure a steady stream of PPE for frontline workers like myself. If it was in his interest, this would have been done by now. Instead, he is just banking on getting a vaccine developed before the election so that he can show people that he’s done something. His mantra is “the faster the better.” He doesn’t even care if it works. So this is where we are. We are utterly without leadership on the coronavirus because all Donald Trump cares about is getting reelected. |
